Echoes of the Forbidden Pact

The dawn broke with a bruised sky, the aftermath of the Veil’s rupture bleeding into every corner of their shattered world. Arlen sat on fractured stone beneath a twisted tree, its bark blackened like burnt parchment. "We were fools," Kaela said, her voice brittle, eyes scanning the thickening shadows. "Every boundary crossed awakens what should remain silent." Arlen’s fingers traced the scar on his palm—the mark of a forbidden pact made long ago when desperation drowned hope. Memories flooded him: secret rituals whispered beneath crimson moons, bargains carved in blood and pain. "I sought to save them," he whispered. "But the curse devours more than it gives." The air vibrated with distant roars and mournful cries; the spirits from the shadow realm pressed closer, their hunger insatiable. "You carry the weight, Arlen," Kaela said, kneeling beside him. "But it is not yours alone to bear." A rustling stirred the underbrush. From the deep woods emerged a figure cloaked in emerald, eyes glinting like sharp stars. "We know of your plight," she said, voice like wind through leaves. "The Council demands answers. The ancient laws are broken, and the Balance wavers." Tension coiled tighter. "I will face them," Arlen declared, voice trembling but resolute. "If this curse is my chain, I will shatter it. But at what cost?" Kaela’s hand gripped his arm, steadying and urgent. "Beware the price of truth. Betrayal walks among us all." The forest seemed to lean in closer, shadows flickering like whispers of forgotten betrayal. As the sun dipped below the horizon, sealing the day’s final breath, Arlen realized the battle was not only for his soul—but for the fate of all realms intertwined. Could he trust the Council? Or would their judgment seal his doom?
