Mara plunged into darkness, crashing through roots and soil, the sharp scent of earth filling her nostrils as she landed hard. Pain shot through her side, but she couldn't stop. Above her, Jonah's shouts echoed, filled with desperation and fear. Struggling to her feet, Mara's eyes adjusted to the dim cavern lit by flickering torchlight on ancient walls. Her pulse quickened—this hidden lair was the heart of the jungle’s mystery and the tomb of the lost expedition. "You shouldn’t be here," a voice whispered from the shadows, icy and familiar. Mara spun, locking eyes with a figure she never expected—the last person she thought she'd see again, someone whose betrayal had shattered everything. "Why, Elena? After all this time," Mara hissed, pain and rage twisting together. Elena smiled coldly, stepping forward, the torchlight catching the glint of a hidden blade. "Because some truths are too dangerous to live. As the cavern walls seemed to close in, Mara faced an impossible choice—trust the woman who abandoned her or confront the darkness alone. And as the ancient curse awakened, the jungle demanded its price. Would Mara survive the betrayal, or become another lost secret beneath the canopy?
