Chapter 3
Crossroads of Betrayal
Thunder rolled as Mara stood at the cliff’s edge, the wind whipping around her like the storm inside. The hourglass lay broken in her palm, sands spilled like shattered hope.
Jonah’s betrayal cut deeper than the tempest. "Why, Jonah? After everything?" she hissed, rain stinging her eyes.
"It wasn’t supposed to be like this," he replied, voice thick with regret. "I did it to protect you — to protect us."
The radio crackled. A gunshot. Someone needed help, but who? Mara’s mind raced. To save one, she must lose another. The impossible choice loomed.
Beneath the thunder, the truth spiraled: old vendettas, secret alliances, a past Mara never imagined. She could feel the eyes of the unseen enemy closing in, every step shadowed by death.
"I have to end this," she vowed, voice breaking like the storm. But as the night swallowed her whole, the final, devastating secret unveiled itself.
Jonathan’s last warning echoed in her memory: "Trust no one. Especially not yourself."
And with that, the darkness took her – leaving only questions unanswered and a mystery far from solved.
